Excerpts, Connecting Dot: A Kindred Revue (2024)

Connecting Dot is an absurdist cabaret musical that addresses the existential crisis known as Jewish womanhood. Amy “Dot” Iaccarino is a starving actress moonlighting as a bartender in Hell’s Kitchen. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, she is visited by a divine presence, and the encounter flourishes into a miraculous vaudeville revue starring her ancestors (among them: a grandiose narcissist, a jazz-singing mafiosa, and a rebellious immigrant from the Old World). Amy begins to see herself in their stories and mannerisms, and comes to terms with the centuries-long conflicts that live on through her.

Split the Lark New Music Ensemble, fall recital. An Emily Dickinson setting for a Dickinson program. Shabnam Abedi, soprano Melissa Lisbao, violin Jake Shur, viola Brianna Tagliaferro, cello

“She’s Calling” is a playful tribute to motherhood. Much like the plight of Mother Ginger from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, or Ponyo’s Granmamare, the piece is meant to evoke the radiant and graceful mother attempting to wrangle her rowdy, boisterous brood. Chui Ling Tan, vibraphone
